A DISTINGUISHED VOICE speaks to us, the words appearing over a black screen as they are spoken.

NARRATOR

We cut to a Macintosh computer screen, the words "Welcome, Ayer Hizawa!" appearing. Zoom out to...

INT.AYER'S ROOM - MORNING

AYER HIZAWA, a cynical, by-the-book boy of 18 years of age, walks away from his computer as it logs him in. He is skinny, pale, and wears jeans and a plain t-shirt. He has short, messy brown hair, and dull, green eyes.

On the walls of his room are TOKYO'S NATIONAL FLAG, various POSTERS OF GOVERNMENT BUILDINGS, and a tablet of the TEN COMMANDMENTS. A picture of him in a WHITE GI and a PURPLE BELT sits next to a picture of AYER and an attractive, SHORT-HAIRED RED-HEAD GIRL on his dresser. Near his bed, on a whiteboard, are various SCRIBBLINGS OF CODE.

He leaves the room, stopping for a moment to look at the empty room directly across his - pictures of his parents are sitting on one of the desks in the room. He looks at them as if he's trying to remember who they are, sighs, and keeps moving.

INT.AYER'S LIVING ROOM - MORNING

Ayer sits down on the couch, grabbing a remote and turning on the TV. The News is on...

TELEVISION

The American government continues to crumble due to strange, inexplicable murders. Riots are sprouting up everywhere at the nation's capitol, Washington D.C. President Obama will be speaking today-

DING-DONG! Ayer jumps, his eyes darting to the front door. DING-DONG! Ayer turns the TV on mute. He stands, moves to his front door, and opens it slowly.

INT.HOTEL ROOM - MORNING

YUZU

No, it's not that... I really can't explain it.

A pause.

YUZU

I'm sorry, baby... but I can't stay with you any longer.

We hear an enraged voice come from the phone, and then... click!

Zoom out to show a cynical, uncommitted, and sexy red-head girl, YUZU TANIKAWA, laying under the covers naked. She places her phone on the bedside table.

A boy sleeping next to her stirs, and she freezes for a moment... and then slowly slips out of the bed, walking through the extravagant room and into the bathroom.

INT.AYER'S LIVING ROOM - MORNING

A man, DR. GIN OKAZAKI, stands in the doorway, briefcase in hand. He's a big man with a gentle face and glasses. He smiles at Ayer, as a father would his son.

GIN

Good morning, Ayer.

AYER

...Good morning, Dr. Okazaki.

GIN

Please, call me Gin.

A pause. Ayer looks down at the ground awkwardly.

GIN

May I... come in?

Ayer nods, dismissing Gin as he turned around and walked back to the couch, sitting back down on it. Gin follows him, sitting down in a chair and opening up his briefcase, taking out a few papers.

GIN

I told you I had something important to talk to you about last night. The results of the tests are in.

AYER

And...?

GIN

It seems that your memory loss is associated with extreme trauma. Your brain has locked away any memories of that event and is preventing you from recollecting it.

AYER

Do you have documentation of it?

Gin hands Ayer the papers he had taken out. Ayer looks them over twice, then sighs, and looks at the ground.

INT.HOTEL ROOM - MORNING

We see Yuzu shower, dress, and fix up her hair in a ponytail, taking care not to wake the sleeping boy. She packs up her things, and leaves, making sure the door doesn't make a single sound as she closes it behind her.

INT.AYER'S LIVING ROOM - MORNING

AYER

How do I get it back?

GIN

I really can't give you a good answer.

AYER

(Sighs)

I figured you'd fail.

GIN

(Pauses before speaking)

...The only way I can see your memory returning is if you have a similar experience or something you see, do, or hear invokes a similar feeling.

AYER

Hmph... that's better than nothing, I guess, even if you're just making it up to make me feel better. Thank you.

Gin smiles and nods, noticing the headlines on the TV.

GIN

(Fearful)

You know, I heard that some strange things have been happening in Tokyo, too.

AYER

In Tokyo...? Impossible, the government here makes sure everyone is safe.

GIN

It's just a rumor, but I-

AYER

I'm not here to chit-chat, Dr. Okazaki.

GIN

(Sighs)

Very well. Let me know if anything concerning your amnesia comes up.

Ayer nods. Gin closes his briefcase, stands up, and leaves, closing the door gently on his way out.

INT.ELEVATOR - MORNING

Yuzu takes out her phone after pressing the 'L' button, and holds it up to her ear.

YUZU

...Hi, Mom. It's Yuzu. It's been a while since we've talked.

Yuzu is beaming as she hears her mother's voice.

YUZU

I'm doing great. Yes, I've been enjoying my summer vacation...Yes, I'll be over in a little bit...OK, love you, too, Mom. Bye!

Click. Yuzu checks the time and date on her phne: 9:17, 6/23/11. She puts her phone away as the elevator doors open, and she walks out.

INT.HOTEL LOBBY - MORNING

Yuzu walks up to the front desk, a man standing there.

YUZU

Thanks again for the room, hun. Keep that room for me... I may take you there next time I stop by.

She winks and smiles as she turns, the boy almost furiously nodding, a red flush coming to his face as he watched her leave the building.

INT.AYER'S LIVING ROOM - MORNING

Ayer looks at the papers Gin had given him once more, then looks at the TV. After a moment, he looks and sees the scrolling bar at the bottom reads "Also in the news: Strange murders in Shibuya. Tokyo Government unresponsive."

He jumps to his feet and runs to his room.

INT.AYER's ROOM - MORNING

Ayer sits down at his computer, navigating his cursor through the abstract skyscraper background to the Start Menu. He flies through a few folders, and opens up the command prompt window. He opens up his web browser as he types, and navigates to the official Tokyo Government site.

He connects his phone and opens a text file inside of it.

Almost instantly, line after line is added to the command line as he navigates through the site to the login page. He quickly types something into the command prompt window, and the web page loads itself, the words, "Welcome, ||||||||||" appearing on the web page before reloading the main page as a logged in member.

He navigates through the site... but finds nothing. He returns to the home page, and accidentally highlights the entire page, the phrase, "/DSP" appearing in red.

He stares at it, eyes wide as he mouths "DSP".

EXT.DOWNTOWN SHIBUYA - MORNING

Yuzu walks through the streets of Downtown Shibuya, passing suggestive glances at boys who were eying her. She brings out her phone, bringing up the GPS that was leading her to her mother's house.

She turned into a neighborhood.

INT.AYER'S ROOM - MORNING

Ayer slowly moved his cursor to the address bar, and typed in the /DSP.

Almost instantly, the web page loaded, the normal white background turning completely black... and then his computer powered down, making a low moan as it did.

Ayer gasps, and tries to turn his computer back on... nothing happens. He presses it again, and again... nothing. And then, the command window appears on the screen, green lines of code appearing and being scrolled through at an incredible rate. At the end of it all, another window appeared with these words:

"Downloading DSP.EXE, Harmonizer.EXE..."

And then his phone vibrates... He checks it, and as he opens the text message from the sender 'Unknown', his phone shuts off... and then a window appears on it with these words:

"Download complete. Installing...

Installation complete. Welcome to the Demon Summoning Program!"

Ayer backs away from his computer, his chair falling over. He drops his phone.

AYER

D-demon Summoning Program?!

He looks at his computer screen. It had the phrase "BEGIN COUNTDOWN? Y/N" on it in bold, glowing green print. Ayer stares at it for a moment, glancing back on the now in-focus poster of Tokyo's government building. He looks back at his computer screen.

He presses the 'Y' key, and picks up his phone. A countdown now had appeared on the screen.

SUMMONING.

And in a flash of purple and magenta lights, a red wolf appeared in front of Ayer, and growled.

"YOU SUMMON ME? I KILL YOU!"

Screaming at the top of his lungs, Ayer grabbed his phone and ran out of the room, the connection severing instantly.

EXT.OUTSIDE AYER'S LAWN - MORNING

Yuzu walked by a rather sickly-looking house that had seen better days. As she looked at it, she saw a flash of purple and magenta lights. She stopped walking.

YUZU

...Huh?

The front door would open, and Yuzu would find herself crashing to the ground along with Ayer, who had accidentally run into her. She gives a loud gasp.

YUZU

Get off of me, stupid boy!

She pushed Ayer off of her, and then quickly got herself up, looking at Ayer with disgust.

YUZU

You look familiar... have we met befo-AHHHHH!

Yuzu screams as she sees a demonic red wolf run out of the house, fire foaming from its mouth as its long, thin tongue swung around, anxious for its meal. It spewed a ball of fire from its mouth and headed straight for Yuzu.

She was rooted to her spot, unable to move away in complete fear. She screams, putting her arms in front of her face. Ayer jumps in front of her, taking the ball of fire head-on.

After a few moments, Yuzu lowers her arms.

He suffers barely any pain, but is knocked down.

YUZU

W-what...?

She sees Ayer slowly get up...  surprised that he looked almost perfectly fine.

Brrrzzt.

Ayer quickly checks his phone.

"The Harmonizer program allows you to harm demons while resisting their attacks. Do not run. The Harmonizer is active only while in combat. Running will deactivate it, and you will die."

AYER

Harm them, huh...? I can't run away...

A pause as he catches his breath.

AYER

Can't let anyone else see this. You, girl!

YUZU

H-how did you...?

Ayer turns around to look at Yuzu momentarily, their eyes meeting. It's clear that he has no idea who she is, but she knows exactly who he is.

AYER

Stay back!

Yuzu nods, taking a few steps back as Ayer turns back around, and runs towards the demon. He closes his eyes as he throws his fist at the beast.

Thud!

He opens his eyes, seeing the demon cringe. He throws another punch quickly, then brings his foot up and drops his heel on the beast's head. The demon roars in pain, and takes a step back.

DEMON

YOU HAVE... DEFEATED ME. I AM YOURS TO COMMAND, HUMAN.

And the demon disappeared...

Yuzu looked at Ayer in complete shock.

YUZU

You just... you just beat that... thing!

AYER

It was a demon...

YUZU

Demon? Like, folklore demons?

AYER

I'm not sure... but that program I downloaded...

YUZU

Program? What program?

AYER

It was called the 'Demon Summoning Program'. It made that red wolf beast appear.

YUZU

Demon..Summoning..Program?

Ayer nods.

YUZU

U-um... it's not going to summon another one, is it?

AYER

I don't know.

YUZU

Are you the only one who has this program?

AYER

I don't know!

A pause. Yuzu looks down at the ground.

AYER

You should go... Who knows what else is going to happen.

Ayer turns to head back into his house, and just as he reaches the front door, he feels the sleeve of his shirt being tugged on. He turns around, seeing Yuzu behind him, biting her lip nervously before speaking.

YUZU

No... t-take me with you. If there's more people with this program... I'd feel safer with you.

Ayer pulled his arm away quickly, hiding the red blush that had come to his face from her being too close to him. After a moment of deliberation, he spoke.

AYER

...Just don't get in my way, please.

He opens the door to his house, and walks in, Yuzu following, a frown on her face.

END ACT 1

ACT II

INT.AYER'S ROOM - DAY

Ayer is typing away on his computer. Yuzu is sitting on his bed, talking on her phone.

YUZU

Hey, mom, it's me. I'm not going to be able to make it today, so let's reschedule when I can come see you, okay? Call me when you get this. Bye.

She closed her phone and put it away into her purse, looking around the room as if everything was familiar to her.

YUZU

So... what exactly are you doing?

AYER

Trying to find out what's going on.

Yuzu stands up, and walks up behind Ayer. She instantly recognizes the site he's on.

YUZU

T-that's the Tokyo Government's official website!

Ayer flies through pages, ignoring Yuzu's realization. As he checks the last page, he stops, and clicks the navigation bar, typing "/DSP" at the end.

Once again, the screen goes black, now with illegible red text appearing.

YUZU

W-what is this?!

AYER

This is where I downloaded the Demon Summoning Program. There has to be a reason why the government has this program, and I'm going to find out.

A few legible words appeared onscreen in big, white text.

WAR.

ANGELS.

DEMONS.

YUZU

War? Angels? Demons?! This is crazy!

AYER

And yet... believable after what we just saw...

A pause.

YUZU

Yeah.

Ayer closes his computer, and stands up. He leaves the room, leaving a puzzled Yuzu alone in his room as he heads to his living room.

INT.AYER'S LIVING ROOM - DAY

Yuzu follows Ayer into the living room.

YUZU

What are you doing?

AYER

Checking the news.

Ayer picks up the remote, and turns the TV on.

REPORTER

There are monsters - DEMONS - running amok here in Tokyo. Casualties are piling up, and - ahhh!

The screen suddenly cuts from the live feed to colored bars. Yuzu stares at the screen, wide-eyed.

YUZU

Y-you can't be serious...

Ayer turns the TV off and drops the remote onto the couch. Yuzu watched as he headed for the front door.

YUZU

Where are you going?

AYER

Outside.

YUZU

Why?

AYER

(Sighs)

Do you ever stop asking questions?

YUZU

(Offended)

I want to know what's going on!

A pause. Ayer turns to look at Yuzu.

AYER

I do, too, so I'm going to take a look around.

Ayer turns around, and walks to the door, and is about to open it when Yuzu speaks again.

YUZU

D-don't leave me alone!

Ayer stops for a moment, and an image of him crying as the silhouette of a someone walking away from him flashes before him. He hears himself yelling, "Don't leave me alone...!"

He holds his head, which is now throbbing in pain.

YUZU

H-hey, are you all right? Your face is pale.

AYER

I'm... I'm fine.

The throbbing pain fades as quickly as the image he had just seen did.

AYER

You'll be safer if you stay here.

Ayer opens the door and leaves. Yuzu stands there, watching the front door as it closes. After a few moments, she hears a door creak, jumps, and rushes out the door, following Ayer.

YUZU

W-wait!

EXT.AYER'S NEIGHBORHOOD - EVENING

Ayer and Yuzu are walking around, Yuzu looking down at her phone. There are no notices, and she sighs, putting her phone back.

AYER

Waiting for someone to call you?

YUZU

My mother.

A pause.

AYER

Oh.

YUZU

Speaking of... do you live by yourself?

AYER

...Yes, I do.

YUZU

Where are your parents?

AYER

I don't know.

YUZU

What? How can you not know where your parents are?

Ayer never answered, and instead continued to walk. Yuzu stopped as she heard some bushes rustle.

YUZU

H-hey, I heard something...

AYER

Stay still... I heard it, too.

And suddenly, two yellow lions with green fur jump out of the bushes.

DEMONS

HUMANS...!

Ayer took out his phone, Yuzu noticing.

YUZU

T-this is NOT the time to be pulling out your phone!

AYER

That demon before said I was his to command... I'm going to try and summon it.

After Ayer typed in a few sentences, he held out his phone. On the screen read the words "SUMMONING DEMON..."

And seconds later, the red beast they had fought earlier that day appeared in a small flash of magenta and purple lights.

AYER

Redeem yourself, demon! Attack them!

The red beast snarled, and charged at the two lions. Claw met claw, tooth met tooth as the red beast challenged both the beasts before him, unwavering in its loyalty to Ayer.

Seeing this, Ayer ran forward to aid his demon companion. He noticed the red beast shoot a fireball at one of the lions and burn it to cinders. He turned to focus on the other one, but was caught completely by surprise, and was hit square in the head.

His world instantly became black as he hit the ground, Yuzu's scream echoing softly in the background.

INT.AYER'S ROOM - NIGHT

YUZU

Hey... hey, are you awake?

Ayer opens his eyes to see Yuzu sitting next to him. He looks over, seeing the red beast sitting next to his bed, and he jumps up, only to be put back down by Yuzu.

YUZU

Stay there. I can't believe you've cheated death twice...

AYER

What time is it?

YUZU

11:43 at night. You've been out for a few days...

AYER

And you've... been sitting here?  You didn't run?

Yuzu looks away, and blushes.

YUZU

W-well, that red beast keeps telling me that you're his master... I had to uh... 'entice' that thing just to get it to carry you in here. A-and I'm not going out there with demons running around and no demon of my own to defend me!

AYER

...Entice?

YUZU

I-It's not what you think! You're disgusting!

A pause. Ayer can't help but grin.

AYER

Heh... that's not what I was thinking of. Can I have my phone?

Yuzu hands Ayer his phone, and he punches in a few keys, and the red beast disappears.

AYER

The DSP has a sub-program called the 'Harmonizer'. It's what allows me to harm demons and not die from their attacks.

YUZU

That's, um... specific.

AYER

Programming is specific. If there weren't a set of rules and restrictions, then the world's networks would be overrun with crackers.

YUZU

Those are the bad kind of hackers, right?

AYER

Yes... I'm surprised you know that.

YUZU

I dated someone who knew a lot about programming.

A pause.

AYER

I... see.

Ayer attempts to get out of bed, but is pushed down by Yuzu.

YUZU

Do you not know the meaning of 'stay there'? You're still recovering.

AYER

Fine...

A moment of awkward silence passes, and Yuzu looks around, a picture on Ayer's dresser catching her eye. She gasps.

It's a picture of her and Ayer. They're embracing each other, and smiling as if they needed nothing else in the world to be happy. However, she looks nothing like she does now. In the picture, she has short, orange hair and wore rather conservative clothing due to her still-budding body. Now, she had long, orange hair, wore skimpy outfits, and her body physique had blossomed.

YUZU

Is... that your girlfriend in that picture?

AYER

I don't know...

YUZU

You... you don't know?

A pause. Ayer looks at the picture.

YUZU

Tell me... you really don't know who that is?

Ayer shakes his head.

AYER

I don't remember her.

A pause.

YUZU

What...?

AYER

I told you I didn't know where my parents were...

YUZU

Yeah... and?

AYER

Three years ago, something happened to me over the summer... and I can't remember it at all. The last thing I remember is waking up for school three years ago without any parents, and not knowing who that girl is. All I remember is her name...

YUZU

What's her name?

AYER

Yuzu Tanikawa.

Yuzu's eyes go wide with shock.

YUZU

Oh, I'm... I'm sorry. I didn't mean to-

AYER

You have nothing to be sorry for. I've been trying to find a way to remember... my doctor told me that I'm repressing that entire summer because something very traumatic happened to me then...

YUZU

It must be hard...

AYER

I've learned to deal with it... someday, I'll remember.

YUZU

I hope you do...

A pause.

AYER

Thanks.

Yuzu stands up.

YUZU

I'm going to bed.

AYER

Okay. I'm going to check out Tokyo and Shibuya tomorrow... um... you can come... if you want.

Yuzu smiles and nods. As she is about to leave the room, Ayer speaks again.

AYER

Wait.

Yuzu turns around.

YUZU

Hm?

A pause.

AYER

Th-...thanks... for taking care of me while I was unconscious.

Yuzu looks away and blushes.

YUZU

Uh...u-um, it was nothing. N-night.

She leaves.

AYER

Good night.

EXT.DOWNTOWN SHIBUYA - MORNING

The entire downtown area is a complete wreck. Streets are jagged, cars overturned and completely smashed, the sidewalk was littered with claw markings. All around, there are small groups of people huddled together, talking amongst themselves.

Ayer is walking through on his way to Tokyo, Yuzu close behind him, looking around frantically, as if they were going to be attacked at any moment.

AYER

Scared?

YUZU

N-no!

AYER

Hmph. You're a horrible liar.

As they walked, Ayer noticed that some of the groups were staring each other down. A few were yelling at each other about God and the demons.

LAW MAN

We must show Him that we are worthy of life! He has given us a choice!

CHAOS MAN

Yeah, I gotcha. He just threw a couple demons at us, killed families, and then tells us t'choose. Yeah, that sounds fair. T'Hell with him! If he's gonna bring about the end of the world, then I'm gonna join those demons and take Him down!

Ayer stops, and looks at Yuzu.

AYER

What happened while I was unconscious?

YUZU

Um... well, some voice claiming to be God told the world that the humans were being given a choice to determine the fate of the world. They could join either the angels or the demons.

Ayer silently absorbed the new information presented to him.

YUZU

U-um...?

AYER

C'mon, let's keep looking around.

Yuzu nodded, silently following Ayer as he continued to walk. They didn't notice the two groups observe them watching.

EXT.DOWNTOWN SHIBUYA - HOURS LATER

Ayer and Yuzu have reached the outskirts of downtown Shibuya.

YUZU

So... which side would you pick for this war?

AYER

The angels. A world run by the laws the angels laid down for us years ago... that's how this world was made, and so that's what I will support.

Yuzu

I'd rather a free-spirited world. Even though I'm afraid of them... I think I'd side with the demons.

AYER

Ha. You'd want a world filled with lies, hate, and mistrust?

YUZU

I don't think that'd happen. People would learn that doing those kinds of things wouldn't benefit them as much as telling the truth.

Yuzu brought out her phone, and looked down at it as she said this, a frown coming to her face. She put her phone away as Ayer retaliated.

AYER

You're naive to think that would happen. People in this world will do anything to get what they want. The only way to ensure peace and prosperity is to have a strict set of laws. Those who break those laws should be punished severely.

YUZU

If there weren't any laws to break, no one would break them.

Ayer stopped walking, and he turned around to face Yuzu, his face angry.

AYER

Yes, you're right. It would be every man for himself. Stealing, killing; they'd all happen constantly with no punishment. Do you seriously think that people would act justly if there were no laws?!

YUZU

Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying! You think people would just abide by all of those laws you'd have be put up?!

AYER

They'd be punished for their crimes - every single person who lies and cheats their way through life! Even if that punishment is death.

YUZU

You're crazy!

AYER

At least I'm not naive and think that people would simply do the right thing without being told to. They're all greedy savages! All of them!

Yuzu backed away as Ayer yelled, almost biting her lower lip. He turned around.

AYER

Get out of my sight. I don't want to see you again.

YUZU

B-but... h-how will I survive...?!

AYER

Listen to you, thinking only of how you'll survive. I'm not your bodyguard.

Yuzu frowns angrily.

YUZU

B-but...!

AYER

Don't waste your breath.

Ayer walks away from Yuzu, and disappears.

EXT.SHIBUYA OUTSKIRTS - AFTERNOON

LAW MAN

You did well in telling her off, boy.

Ayer turned to see the group from earlier approaching him. He looked at the ground for a moment, and frowned.

AYER

I... I was...

LAW MAN

(Shakes his head)

Nay. You would have been corrupted by her soon enough had you stayed in her presence any longer...

Ayer looks up at the man.

AYER

You're the group that supports the angels, aren't you?

LAW MAN

Indeed.

The man held out his hand.

LAW MAN

Join us, boy. We could use a bright, young man like yourself.

Ayer pauses for a moment, then nods slowly, taking the man's hand and shaking it.

LAW MAN

Excellent. My name is Azuma.

EXT.DOWNTOWN SHIBUYA - NIGHT

Yuzu is huddled up against the wall in a dark alley, her head resting on her arms.

YUZU

W-why... do I feel like this...?

Yuzu lightly hit her fist against the wall behind her.

YUZU

Ugh! Screw him!

A pause.

CHAOS MAN

So, what's a pretty young thing such as yourself sittin' here alone?

Yuzu gasps, and looks up to see one of the men from earlier towering over her.

CHAOS MAN

I know you... you were that girl walkin' with that boy earlier today. My eyes always catch pretty faces. You two split?

YUZU

W-we had a fight...

CHAOS MAN

Heart-breakin'. Listen, y'look like a girl with some spunk, and we could use a girl like yourself in our little group.

YUZU

W-what group?

CHAOS MAN

We're the group sidin' with those demons! You interested?

Yuzu nodded, an angry look in her eyes.

CHAOS MAN

(Grins)

I had a feelin' you'd join up. The name's Nikaido - Kaido for short.

EXT.DOWNTOWN SHIBUYA - MORNING

Ayer is playing around with his phone.

AYER

The DSP, or 'Demon Summoning Program', allows me to summon demons from my phone.

EXT.SHIBUYA OUTSKIRTS - MORNING

NIKAIDO

Y'say he was able to summon demons?

YUZU

Yes. He only summoned one a couple times, but you can summon more, I think.

NIKAIDO

Hmm... that poses a problem for us... y'think there's a way we can get demons t'fight for us?

YUZU

Well... I can try something. I'll be right back.

She walks away from the group, Nikaido noticing her moving the straps of her tank top below her shoulders and fiddling with something in front of her.

EXT.DOWNTOWN SHIBUYA - MORNING

AYER

It's all programming, which means demons are being digitized, warped here, and then transformed back into their original states via a network of servers. It's really quite fascinating... but before I digress. These demons follow whoever summons them if you're able to defeat them in battle.

AZUMA

This is quite an incredible find. Where did you find it?

A pause.

AYER

It was in a hidden page on the Tokyo Government's website.

AZUMA

Hm.. well, nonetheless, this will prove quite useful in our battle against the demons. I'm glad to have met you, Ayer Hizawa.

After a few moments, Ayer spoke again, looking up at Azuma.

AYER

So, you know about the war?

Azuma nods.

AYER

And you're going around fighting those who have sided with the demons?

Azuma

We also try to help those who are in need... given that they're following all of the laws.

AYER

And if they break the rules?

AZUMA

Then they are punished severely... no man can escape from the law, no matter how poor or rich, healthy or sick. They all must be punished if they break the law.

AYER

That sounds a little extreme...

Azuma

You are still young. You will learn with age, young Ayer.

AYER

Hmm... yeah, you're right.

Ayer smiles, and goes back to his phone.

EXT.SHIBUYA OUTSKIRTS - MID-MORNING

Yuzu walks back to Nikaido, who was standing a ways from the group two very lovestruck demons following her. Now seeing her from the front, the straps below her shoulders accentuated her almost perfectly, giving her an incredibly alluring look.

NIKAIDO

Y'might wanna..y'know, fix yourself up before walkin' back to the group. Can't say what'll happen.

Yuzu nods, and fixes herself up.

YUZU

I'm not really worried. I've got these two on my side if one of those guys try anything funny.

EXT.DOWNTOWN SHIBUYA - AFTERNOON

AYER

I think I've finally done it!

Azuma and the group looks at Ayer after his sudden outburst.

AZUMA

Hm?

AYER

Since I can summon demons, I always had the feeling that I could summon other supernatural beings... and we can.

Ayer stood up, and held out his phone after pressing a few buttons. There was a flash of white light, Azuma and his followers gasping in awe as an angel appeared in front of Ayer.

EXT.SHIBUYA SHOPPING DISTRICT - AFTERNOON

Ayer walks with the group around the shopping district, talking to people they meet and preaching the words of the angels to them. At one point, Ayer notices someone running out of a general store, three bags in his arms. A store clerk is chasing him.

STORE CLERK

Stop him! Thief!

Ayer watches the small chase, and then gasps as he realizes who the man is. It's Gin, his doctor.

AYER

Dr. Okazaki?-a-AH!

BANG!

The sound of a gun bounces against the walls of the buildings and the ground, Gin falling to the ground with an almost blood-chilling scream, blood seeping from his pant leg. He had been shot in the leg.

AYER

Dr. Okazaki!

Ayer runs over without thinking, falling to the ground beside Gin.

GIN

Ayer...?! Is that you...?

AYER

W-what are you doing?! Why did you steal that food?!

Gin winces as he speaks.

GIN

My house... burned down by demons. My wife and kids managed to escape with me, and I have no money for food... I need it for the-Guh!

Ayer jumps at another shot being fired, and it pierces Gin's stomach. Ayer is now visibly crying as he turns to Azuma, who is holding the gun in his hand, a cold, indifferent look on his face.

AYER

What are you doing?! Stop shooting him! STOP!

AZUMA

He was stealing food from that market. Thou shall not steal, Ayer!

AYER

What about helping those in need?! He needed that food for his family! Surely you under-

AZUMA

And as I said, there are NO excuses!

He fires again, now piercing Gin's chest.

AYER

STOP! Dr. Okazaki! G-Gin! GIN!

EXT.DOWNTOWN SHIBUYA - AFTERNOON

NIKAIDO

So, now we've got two demons fighting for us. Now we can start gettin' shit!

YUZU

From where?

NIKAIDO

From stores and restaurants. With these demons, we'll be livin' the high life! We can do whatever we want!

Yuzu

I thought these were for taking down the angels and making sure we're not hammered with laws from them.

NIKAIDO

Exactly! We don't need any laws.

YUZU

Umm... w-well, don't you think it'd be wrong to just go and steal, even without any law saying you can't?

NIKAIDO

Haha! That's a good one!

Nikaido lightly punches Yuzu's shoulder.

NIKAIDO

I want t'be able t'do whatever I want without consequence. A world where the strongest survive and rule! You're not thinkin' there should be laws, still, are ya?

There was a pause as all eyes were on Yuzu.

YUZU

U-uh... o-of course not! Haha...

Nikaido grins.

NIKAIDO

That's what I like t'hear. But, t'be sure... let's find something that'll test your loyalty.

EXT.AYER'S NEIGHBORHOOD - EVENING

As the group walks, they pass by Ayer's house. Yuzu looks over at it, a longing look in her eyes. Her attention is snapped back to in front of her as Nikaido speaks.

NIKAIDO

Here we are!

They see a woman walking down the street with a bag of groceries in her arms.

Yuzu gasps, feeling the touch of cold metal against her hands. Nikaido has just put a gun in her hand.

NIKAIDO

We need food tonight, and it looks like she's bought in bulk... kill her.

YUZU

A-are you crazy?!

NIKAIDO

Fail, and I'll kill you.

Yuzu took a moment before responded.

YUZU

I-I can use those demons...!

NIKAIDO

Ha, not anymore. You never really fulfilled that promise to them, now did you...?

Yuzu gasped, her eyes trailing down to the ground. She shook her head slowly.

NIKAIDO

They follow me, now, girl... so go kill her.

Yuzu nods in defeat, and walks forward to get a better look at the woman while Nikaido and the others hide. She's humming happily, and with long orange hair and a strikingly alluring body, it's no question who she is to Yuzu.

Her mother, ALANNA TANIKAWA

YUZU

M-mom?!

ALANNA

Oh...?

She turns around, noticing Yuzu.

ALANNA

Yu! What a surprise to see you here! I'm sorry for not calling you back - my phone died and I just took it in today because I was busy with work and just used my business line. I was going to give you a call when I got home.

YUZU

I-it's fine, mom...

Yuzu's mother notices a gun in her hand, and gasps.

ALANNA

I-is that a... gun?!

Yuzu nods, tears welling up in her eyes. She holds up the gun, her entire body shaking. Yuzu's mother looks completely shocked.

ALANNA

W-what's happened, Yu...? T-tell me...

YUZU

I-... I can't!

Yuzu is now completely in tears.

ALANNA

You must have a good reason for this, Yu... you've always had a good reason for what you've done...

YUZU

Stop, mom...

ALANNA

Just tell me why you're pointing that gun at me... have I been a bad mother? Did I hurt you?

YUZU

S-stop!

Yuzu fires the gun, but it hits the ground, completely missing her mother.

YUZU

(Hyperventilating)

I-I... I made a wrong decision, m-mom... I did something... something I shouldn't've done. And now... I-I c-c-can't go back... so stop... stop making this harder for me!

She points the gun back at her mother, eyes wide, tears running freely down her cheeks. Yuzu's mother is now also crying.

ALANNA

Yu...

YUZU

I don't wanna die!

She gasps as she says this, instantly hearing Ayer's voice in her head.

"Listen to you, only thinking of how you'll survive."

They stand there for only a few antagonizing minutes before Yuzu lowers her gun, looking at the ground.

YUZU

I-I'm sorry... mom.

Alanna smiles, but that expression quickly changes to fear.

ALANNA

Listen to me, sweetie. Whatever happens, do not die. Please... don't let this war kill you.

BANG!

Yuzu lets out an ear-piercing scream as she sees Alanna reel back.

BANG! BANG!

Alanna dies before she hits the ground.

Yuzu runs to Alanna, kneeling down next to her, calling for her frantically, crying. After a few moments, she hears footsteps and turns to see Nikaido walking towards her.

YUZU

H-how could you be so cold?!

NIKAIDO

You were takin' too long, and I couldn't kill ya. There's still some things I may need you for.

YUZU

That was my MOTHER!

NIKAIDO

Yeah, heard the whole conversation. Sure she was a real winner.

YUZU

Y-you BASTARD!

NIKAIDO

That hurts, 'Yu'. Y'know, I lost my wife and kid.

Nikaido points his gun at Yuzu.

NIKAIDO

Now, you can continue to bitch and moan about your mother, and I'll kill you right here. Or, you'll shut up and follow my commands and I'll let you live. You got a choice.

EXT.SHOPPING DISTRICT - DAWN

Ayer is sitting awake while the rest of the group sleeps. he looks at the horizon.

EXT.AYER'S NEIGHBORHOOD - DAWN

Yuzu is sitting awake, still crying... she looks at Ayer's house.

EXT.DOWNTOWN SHIBUYA - DAWN

Ayer and Yuzu speak together.

AYER

She was right...

YUZU

He was right...

A pause as the sun is beginning to peek out from the horizon.

AYER AND YUZU

Where are you...?

EXT.DOWNTOWN SHIBUYA - MORNING

The two groups are walking through Downtown Shibuya, and see each other.

NIKAIDO

Well, look who it is! The preacher.

AZUMA

Hmph, I have no need to talk with you sinful scum!

NIKAIDO

Oh, that hurts. Well, I've got a little surprise for you!

Two demons appear in front of the CHAOS group, causing the LAW group to take a step back.

AZUMA

Y-you can also summon demons to fight for you?! Hmm... no matter. We have someone else who can summon more!

NIKAIDO

Whaddya mean, 'someone else'?

Azuma smirks.

AZUMA

Observe! Ayer!

Upon hearing Ayer's name called, Yuzu gasps, and watches as two angels appear in front of the LAW group.

NIKAIDO

Hmph, angels, huh? Not exactly intimidating.

AZUMA

And demons!

The red beast that Ayer had always summoned appeared in front of the angels, snarling at the CHAOS group. Nikaido looks taken aback, but quickly regains his composure.

NIKAIDO

Hmph, even with that, your preaching ends today! Now that we've got our own demons, it's time to end this little fight for good!

AZUMA

I couldn't agree more!

The camera pans over both groups as they prepare themselves. Zoom in to see Ayer and Yuzu, both with a hesitant look... and then they see each other, and upon seeing the other in the opposite group, they look away.

AZUMA AND NIKAIDO

CHAAARGE!

And the battle begins. Gunshots are fired, angels and demons fight amongst each other with powers beyond the imagination, blows from punches and kicks are exchanged.

Ayer and Yuzu watch for a moment... and then run to each other.

AYER

(Angrily)

I should've known you'd run and join them!

YUZU

I had no choice, you left me alone!

SMACK!

Ayer takes a few steps back, his eyes wide, a hand on his cheek.

AYER

Left... you... alone?

And suddenly, a flurry of images of the day Yuzu broke up with him flash before his eyes. He hears the conversation clearly above the din of the battle.

YUZU

I'm sorry, baby... but I can't stay with you any longer.

AYER

You... you're joking, right?

YUZU

No.

AYER

W-why...? We haven't been fighting! We've been doing great.

YUZU

But we haven't.

AYER

What did I do?!

YUZU

I can't tell you.

AYER

Tell me, Yuzu! Tell me! I'll make it up to you!

YUZU

I'm sorry, Ayer...

AYER

Don't leave me alone, Yuzu! Don't leave me alone...!

And he hears the sound of Yuzu's hand slapping his face before walking away...

Yuzu watches Ayer, his eyes wildly looking around, his face one of pure shock.

YUZU

W-what's wro-...!

She gasps for breath as Ayer suddenly punches her in the stomach, then forces her to the ground and wraps both of his arms around her neck.

YUZU

A-ah...!

AYER

What's your name?

YUZU

W-...w-what...?

AYER

You never told me your name. What is it...?

Yuzu looks away from Ayer, struggling for air.

YUZU

G-get... o-off!

AYER

Tell me your name...

He shakes her, his grip tightening.

AYER

Tell me!

YUZU

Y-yu...zu... T-tani...k-kawa...

Ayer's eyes shot open, tears welling up in his eyes.

AYER

No...

He screams, and lets go of Yuzu's neck, punching her in the face.

YUZU

Ah...!

Ayer grabs Yuzu by her shirt, and pulls her face close to his.

AYER

You... you knew. You knew this entire time and didn't tell me! You deserve to die!

SMACK! Tears came from Yuzu's eyes from the pain she felt.

AYER

And you even asked me if that girl in the picture was my girlfriend. You knew it was you!

YUZU

A-Ayer... I-I...

AYER

Shut up!

SMACK!

YUZU

S-sorry... wanted... t-tell... y-you...

AYER

LIAR!

Ayer took a few deep, angry breaths before asking the one question that was now nagging him.

AYER

Why did you leave me?

YUZU

W-wh...?

AYER

You never gave me a solid reason as to why you left me all those years ago.

YUZU

Mom... divorce...

AYER

Your mother got a divorce?

Yuzu nods very slowly.

YUZU

Afraid of... commitment. Thought you... may break up... me... didn't want... to be hurt, but... didn't want... hurt you... left...

Ayer almost instantly let go of Yuzu's neck, allowing her to hoarsely gasp for breath. His hands were shaking, tears falling down his cheeks.

YUZU

You're... not... killing... me?

Ayer took out his phone.

AYER

Days ago, I couldn't remember the summer of three years ago.

He dropped it next to Yuzu.

AYER

I couldn't trust anyone. That memory had been a part of who I was, and not knowing why I felt the way I felt made me hate the world.

He stood up.

AYER

I trusted you.

He turned around.

AYER

And you broke that trust... there's nothing left... I give up!

He walks away...

YUZU

W-wait...!

She stands up, and Ayer stops for a moment.

AYER

The phone is yours. I'm sure you can manipulate that phone as well as you manipulated me.

Yuzu watches Ayer as he walks away, remembering when he watched her do the same thing. She picked up his phone, and looked at it.

Moments later, Ayer would find himself spun around, and staring straight at Yuzu's beaten body. She wraps her arms tightly around him, her lips touching his in a deep kiss. Through his surprised expression, he slowly wraps his arms around her.

The kiss is broken after a few moments, Ayer genuinely smiling. Yuzu's eyes are shining, and she's smiling.

YUZU

I never... got over you. I made myself forget... because it hurt so much.

AYER

Yuzu... I-

Yuzu lays a finger on Ayer's lips, silencing him as she gives his phone back to him.

YUZU

I understand... and I forgive you.

She then lays her head on his shoulder.

YUZU

I was wrong... about what I said about people doing the right thing without laws.

Ayer

I, too, was wrong. Laws cannot be stifling...

A pause.

AYER

This war... humans are being forced to choose a side in a war they shouldn't be involved in.

YUZU

Then... let's make our own side. One that has laws, but doesn't restrict personal freedom.

Ayer nods, and releases Yuzu from his arms.

AYER

We need to stop those two groups before they end up killing each other.

Ayer and Yuzu look to see the two groups still fighting, the CHAOS group's demons gone, and only the red beast and an angel remain.

Ayer and Yuzu run into the middle of the fray where Azuma and Nikaido were fighting.

AYER AND YUZU

STOP!

The red beast roars, and the angel begins to shine brightly, and the fighting comes to a grinding halt.

AZUMA

Ayer, what are you doing with that girl...?

NIKAIDO

Yeah, Yu, you plannin' on bein' a traitor?

Nikaido raises his gun, only to have the red beast get in front of him, fire beginning to form in his mouth.

BANG!

The demon is completely unharmed, the bullet bouncing off of its body. Nikaido gasps.

NIKAIDO

I-it didn't even...

AYER

Put the gun down. Now.

Nikaido puts down his gun.

YUZU

Listen, everyone! We shouldn't be included in this war! We've been forced to choose a side.

AYER

Demons and angels can coexist: look before you - there's an angel and a demon standing side-by-side as comarades in battle! There is a side against both of them!

Everyone looked at the red beast and the angel.

DEMON

I WILL NOT HARM COMRADES IN BATTLE, BE IT ANGEL, HUMAN, OR DEMON. MY MASTER HAS GONE THROUGH MUCH. HE HAS LEARNED.

ANGEL

Indeed... my views have been changed thanks to him. I will try to understand demons instead of shun them at first glance.

Ayer smiles, then looks at the two groups with a serious expression.

AYER

Instead of fighting, we should be working to liberate ourselves!

A pause.

AZUMA

And how are you planning on liberating us?

AYER

I'm going to confront God and Lucifer. I will call them down here myself!

EXT.GOVERNMENT BUILDING - DAY

Ayer, Yuzu, the LAW group, and the CHAOS group all approach the Tokyo Government building, where many men are stationed in front to prevent access.

Ayer and Yuzu walk up to them.

YUZU

We need to get inside.

AGENT

Entry to this area is prohibited until further notice.

AYER

I know the government has been doing undercover deals with God and Lucifer. I am the one who hacked your website.

AGENT

W-what?! Y-you downloaded the DSP?!

And suddenly, the red beast appeared in front of Ayer, growling.

AGENT

D-demon!

YUZU

Let us through!

AGENT

I cannot allow you to. The government officials are currently in an important meeting. They are discussing which side Tokyo will be taking in the war.

AYER

We're here to tell them that we will not be choosing a side. We will indepentely break away from the influence of both the angels and demons.

AGENT

Ha! You expect me to believe that, boy? The only way you'll get to have your say is if you summon God and Lucifer yourself, and no one has ever been able to do that!

AYER

Watch me.

Ayer begins typing frantically on his phone. Moments pass. Yuzu frowns as she watches Ayer work. He seems puzzled.

AGENT

Give it up, boy. Not even the one who made the DSP can summon God or Lucifer, let alone both of them!

Ayer doesn't respond, and suddenly holds his phone up to the sky. The ground begins to shake. It's a small rumbling at first, then grows in intensity. Yuzu wraps her arms around Ayer.

YUZU

A-Ayer...?

Ayer wraps an arm around Yuzu to prevent her from falling over as the shaking continues to intensify. Everyone else begins to lose their footing.

AGENT

Y-you can't be serious...!

A giant white light shoots down from the sky, clashing with a giant crimson magenta and purple light. There's a flash, the shaking calms down, and before everyone is a giant blue head with long, white hair, and a giant teal green demon wearing a white toga. They are GOD and LUCIFER.

Everyone gasps.

YUZU

A-Ayer...! You...!

GOD

Who dares to call me, and with Lucifer...?

AYER

I do. I am Ayer Hizawa, and this is Yuzu Tanikawa, and we demand that you end the humans' involvement in this war.

LUCIFER

Impossible, child.

YUZU

Why?!

AYER

Both of you have given us the choice of either absolute law or no law, but that simply doesn't work. I experienced first-hand a world where even the smallest of laws is punished.

YUZU

And I experienced a world where innocent people are killed simply because they can be... because they're not strong enough to defend themselves; because there's no law defending them and making sure there's peace.

GOD

And because of this, you two feel that the humans should be left out and live with the world they have now? One where personal freedom is unrestricted, but laws are in place?

AYER AND YUZU

Yes.

LUCIFER

An interesting proposal... but who's to say both of us will support you? I for one have no desire to coexist with that tyrant any longer.

GOD

And I have no intention of coexisting with that power hungry fool!

AYER

Quiet!

Everyone gasps as Ayer raps out his command to the two dieties, and to their surprise, the two stop their bickering, and look at Ayer.

AYER

These two will show you that you both will support me.

He points to the red beast, and moments later an angel appears next to the beast.

GOD AND LUCIFER

Impossible!

LUCIFER

You can summon both demons and angels?

GOD

This is... most interesting. A boy who can summon both sides to fight for his own.

LUCIFER

Boy, you realize that the world as it is now is far from perfect.

AYER

And I will work to change that. Unlike the both of you, we as humans can adapt to different situations and make the best choice, rather than an absolute choice every time.

Another gaps as Ayer blatantly insults both God and Lucifer. There's a pause.

GOD

Hmm... 'adapt'. Very well. You have shown an uncanny courage when in the face of beings such as Lucifer and I. I will place my faith in your abilities.

LUCIFER

I will, as well. One day, you may create a world where angels and demons will not need to fight.

GOD

But, be warned. The resonsibility rests on your shoulders and yours alone, Ayer Hizawa. Fail, and we shall smite you down and renew this war for dominance of the Earth.

YUZU

No... he won't have all the responsibility.

LUCIFER

Hmm?

YUZU

I'll support him... no matter what responsibility he has, I'll share it with him!

God and Lucifer take a glance at each other.

LUCIFER

Very well, Yuzu Tanikawa.

A pause.

GOD

I declare this war officially over! May your savior, Ayer Hizawa, and his partner, Yuzu Tanikawa, lead you to an era of peace and prosperity!

God and Lucifer leave in a brilliant flash of white, magenta, and purple lights.

YUZU

Did we...?

Ayer is smiling.

EXT.AYER'S LAWN - DAY

Yuzu, no longer looking beaten up and battered, walks up the driveway towards Ayer's front door, humming to herself. A picture of her mother is attached to her purse.

She walks up to the door, and knocks, Ayer appearing in the doorway after the door opens. He smiles.

AYER

Hey.

Yuzu leans in, and they share a small kiss, Yuzu smiling afterwards.

YUZU

Hey.

They stare at each other for a few moments.

AYER

Come in, I've got a couple people I'd like you to meet.

Yuzu walks into the house, the camera zooming out as she closes the door behind her.
